Women rescued after cries were heard from Snowdon

A 21-year-old woman is believed to have spent more than 20 hours on a ledge before a café worker heard her cries from the summit of Snowdon.  After slipping at the top of the summit and becoming seriously injured, the hiker fell onto a ledge where she is believed to have spent the whole night.

With both rib and pelvic injuries, the woman from South Wales continued to scream out for help during the night until a café worker heard her the following day. At a height of 3000ft (90m), a rescue helicopter from RAF Valley struggled to reach her due to thick cloud.  However, on their second attempt, after refueling, they managed to raise the woman to safety where she was immediately taken to hospital in Bangor. 

Assistance from voluntary organisation

After the hiker fell when trying to descend on the eastern side of the peak, not only did a rescue helicopter assist, but also six members of Llanberis mountain rescue team made their way towards the scene.  Llanberis mountain rescue team is an entirely voluntary organisation that assists during mountain incidents for those who have injured themselves on Snowdon or other surrounding mountains. They are on call 24 hours a day and rely purely on donations from the public.
