We often take for granted that restaurants provide food that is safe for us to eat. However, with only slightly dipping food hygiene standards can a case of food poisoning occur. Food poising is almost entirely preventable, and so if a restaurant or take away has failed in this duty of care to you, they may be liable. Whilst it is difficult to prove liability for food poising, if the provider has seriously damaged your digestive organs, you may stand a real chance of claiming compensation.

A community hospital in Denbighshire has been criticised for its one out of five star food hygiene rating. A recent inspection of Denbigh Infirmary, run by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, described the food hygiene measures as “abysmal”, and stated that “major improvement” was necessary. A spokesperson from the health board said that they were “very disappointed” with the rating and agreed that changes had to be made. Several families from the UK have been awarded compensation after their trips to a luxury Egyptian resort were ruined as a result of a gastric illness outbreak. A total of 73 holidaymakers were represented at Birmingham County Court and collectively received over £350,000 from their tour operator. The incident happened in 2012 when the families were staying in the four-star ‘Tropicana Sea Splash Resort’ in Sharm El-Sheikh, which has now been renamed ‘the Sea Beach Resort & Aqua Park’.
