A safety steward has been awarded £5,500 in compensation after seriously damaging his Achilles tendon during a pitch invasion at the Millennium Stadium. 48-year-old Mark Day suffered the injury while tackling a pitch invader at an international rugby match in Cardiff in 2013. Mr Day took the Welsh Rugby Union to court, claiming that the injury has stopped him from enjoying his “social life” and competing with his local running club. After a student from Monmouthshire was left paralysed following an injury playing rugby, a brain charity has called for more to be done within head injury support services. 19-year-old Angus Swanson was in a coma for three weeks after he collapsed at the side of the pitch during a university game against King’s College in London. One of Britain’s top female surfers suffered a life-threatening brain injury in 2008 and continues to battle for compensation. 22-year-old Gwen Spurlock had been testing a new wave simulator at a Swansea leisure centre when the accident happened. Caersws Football Club has pleaded guilty for the safety failures that led to the death of a 12-year-old boy. Casey Breese had been playing football with some friends when the metal goalpost fell on him and subsequently crushed him to death. Championship striker Dexter Blackstock is seeking compensation following a life-threatening injury on the football pitch. Mr Blackstock is currently seeking immense High Court damages from Cardiff City and the player that committed the negligent tackle, Seyi Olofinjana. 27-year-old Blackstock is seeking compensation of more than £50,000 for the tackle that occurred in November 2010.
