In a report published by HM Chief Inspector of Prisons following a review of court cells in Wales, it has been claimed that the safety of detainees is being compromised. The review of 26 courts was carried out in July of last year. Among some of the concerns raised was an excessive use of handcuffs in some cases, and prisoners being left in cells for prolonged periods of time. The review also found that low staffing levels was causing a problem in some cases which compromised the safety and care of detainees. Weekend babies ‘significantly’ higher chance of death

In a study published in the British Medical Journal has revealed that babies born in English hospitals at the weekend have a ‘significantly’ higher chance of dying than those born during the week.  The study looked at the rates of stillbirths or deaths within seven days from 2010-12 and comprised more than 1.3 million births. A patient at a care home in North East Wales died in 2012 after being lowered into a scalding bath. 88-year-old Beatrice Morgan, a former nurse herself, had been staying at the Greencroft Residential Home when the accident happened. Loose rocks have been recognised by a mountain rescue worker as an increasing problem on Snowdonia’s peaks as yet another walker has fallen as result of them. New figures have revealed an increase in the number of motorcyclists killed and seriously injured on the roads in Wales.
